Our Roots
Our story is about a father, James, and son, Manoli, embarking on a journey to build a legacy, both of whom have a passion for the outdoors, farming, and of course - fine wine.
What started as a hobby in 1994 quickly became a family tradition. James and the Boutzoukas family would ship grapes from California to their home in Florida, gathering friends and family each year to make wine together. That tradition became something more meaningful when they released their first Boutzoukas vintage in celebration of Manoli’s baptism.
Years later, Manoli felt a pull toward farming that led him to change career paths and study agriculture. During this time, what felt like fate beginning to unfold. On a routine trip to Paso Robles, James and Yia Yia Mia, formally known as “Momma Mia, came across the perfect property in the Adelaida District. The original plan was simple: farm wine grapes for local wineries and continue making wine as a passion project.
But in true Boutz fashion, a simple idea grew into something much bigger.
Today, Boutz Cellars spans over 52 acres across two ranches, where we cultivate 12 varietals, including rare Greek grapes that reflect our heritage. We are proud to have established the first Greek varietals on California’s Central Coast, managing every step of the process— from registration and quarantining new varieties to bottling and everything in between.
Our Greek varietals program began in 2020 with three white wines that immediately stood out: Assyrtiko, Moschofilero, and Vidiano. Since then, we’ve expanded to include Xinomavro, Agiorgitiko, Liatiko, and most recently, Kotsifali. Each vine is farmed by hand and cared for with intention, ensuring these varietals are thoughtfully expressed in this unique region. We have plans in order for more to be planted in the 2026-2027 timeline to expand even further.
At our core, we are guided by hard work, sustainable farming practices, and an unwavering commitment to quality over quantity, just like our ancestors did before us.
Come experience Boutz Cellars where our legacy is rooted in the land, expressed in the wine, and brought to life with Greek hospitality.
